Come sing with us! Men Only Sing Along

Saturday 16 January 2016, 7pm
Mayfield Memorial Hall, East Sussex

Mayfield Festival Choir would like to encourage many more men to discover the joy of singing so, on Saturday 16 January 2016, we held a singing workshop open to any man who wanted to attend.

Just short of 70 people signed up and came along, including members of Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Heathfield and the Mayfield choirs, as well as a significant number who are completely new to singing.  Jeremy Summerly (accompanied by Andrew Benians) took everyone on a historical journey starting with 13th century Latin and ending with “The girl that I love has given me the shove”. The final piece “None but the lonely heart” was delivered with a heartbreaking beauty that belied the fact that they had only been singing together for a couple of hours.

The costs of both the workshop and an excellent ploughman’s lunch were met through the generosity of one of Mayfield Festival Choir’s patrons.

“Just to congratulate you and your helpers on such a well organised and enjoyable day on Saturday. Jeremy was outstanding and the time flew by. The reaction from everyone I met was very positive.” John Petrie

“Thank you for organising the very enjoyable and memorable singing day …. the turnout was amazing! Jeremy is extremely talented and able to bring out the best  in the wide variety of music covered on the day …. ably assisted by Andrew ….. who together made a good team!” Noel Bannister

“… thanks for a superb day, action packed with music, and for your generous and welcoming hospitality.  Musically speaking, it was a challenge for the “unchoired” but that experience was part of the fun. We laughed a lot and Jeremy has a deliciously light touch and sense of humour.  The unseen Andrew enjoyed star billing for his hard work.  Just a glance into the kitchen was enough to confirm the huge amount of work done by the catering team and what a feast they served us, all produced seamlessly!” Christo Corfield
